元刑事で探偵事務所の調査員として働くトカゲは、ある事件でミスを犯し、相棒刑事を亡くしてしまい退職した過去があった。他人に心を許さず協調性がないのが難点だが、映像を記憶する超人的な能力と高い身体能力で、数々の難事件を解決してきた実績を買われて、警視庁からの強い要請により潜入探偵として捜査に復帰することになる。そのトカゲと正反対の性格の助手・望月香里は、お嬢様育ちながら押しが強い人情家。助手に助けられながら、事件を解決していくことで、トカゲは次第に香里と心が惹かれあい、自らの殻を破り始める。
